A Brief History

Our school started in October 2012.  Shiro in Japanese means Castle here meaning protection, and strength. Shiro (Saigo) is also the name of one of the first four students of Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo.  Since the beginning our school has participated with success in local and foreign events.Through ongoing participation and knowledge update our school aims to be the leading judo school in Kodokan judo in Malta.  In 2018, the school is officially recognized by the International Judo Federation to teach Kodokan Judo.

Our Philosophy

Shirojudokwai is a school dedicated to teach Judo along the principles of long term athelete development.  But judo is more than a sport.   Shirojudokwai is committed to preserve and promote the judo ideal. Technical skills are taught alongside competition skills in order that one might strengthen the other. The school was established to give students the opportunity to strive towards the highest level of judo, both mentally and physically in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect. Therefore, each lesson is an all over workout to improve Agility, Balance, Coordination, Speed and Mental Health.
